Jimmy Tarbuck was arrested and questioned last month in relation to a historical allegation of child sexual abuse, it has emerged.
The comedian and quiz show host is believed to have been detained at his home in Kingston-upon-Thames last month, BBC News reports. He has since been released on bail.
"North Yorkshire Police can confirm that a 73-year-old man has been arrested in connection with a historic child sex abuse investigation in Harrogate," a police statement read.
"Following questioning, he was released on police bail pending further inquiries. The complaint relates to an incident that occurred in the late 1970s when the victim was a young boy.
"It would not be appropriate to comment further at this stage."
North Yorkshire Police said that the arrest was not made as part of Operation Yewtree, but as part of a separate inquiry.
However, the force confirmed that information which brought about the arrest was passed on by officers at the Metropolitan Police who are currently working on Operation Yewtree.
Tarbuck hosted Sunday Night at the London Palladium during the mid-1960s, and also chaired numerous quiz shows.
