The 27-year-old plays Lucrezia Donati in the series alongside Tom Riley, and claimed that she was initially "nervous" about its sexual content.
Talking to Metro, she said: "The sex scenes were certainly a challenge, because no-one's looked past my face before.
"You get insecure about it - I get insecure with my clothes on, let alone with my clothes off."
But the actress - who has also starred in Upstairs Downstairs and The Inbetweeners Movie - said she became more comfortable in the role as filming progressed.
"Success is a very attractive thing, which helped me understand where Lucrezia was coming from.
"She uses her sexuality as a weapon. She makes the men believe they're the master, but she's the one in control," she added.
She said: "I remember taking my mum and dad to the premiere of The Inbetweeners Movie and being really nervous.
"My Mum was like, 'Laura, don't worry: I've watched all of the first series of the the TV show, so I understand what this is going to be like'."
