Though it may seem hard to believe at times, there are downsides to being rich and famous. For example, at a certain point on your path to celebrity, you have to start wondering: "Are the people in my life here because they genuinely like and care for me, or do they just want to be part of the lifestyle?" It's something Demi Lovato learned the hard way when she committed herself to treating her battle with bulimia and other emotional issues.
“A couple of months before I went to rehab, I had a birthday party and there were a couple of hundred people there. It was full of people who I considered my closest friends,” she recalls in the new issue of Company magazine. “When I turned my phone on after being in rehab for three months, I expected lots of text messages and phone calls. I had four texts. That was a wake up call.”
That wake up call taught Lovato that when it comes to her social circle, it's all about quality over quantity. “Now I have people who, if I break my leg in the middle of the night, they’ll come to the hospital with me,” Lovato says. “Or they’ll answer the phone at 4am if I need them.”
