Miley Cyrus has defended the recreational use of marijuana by suggesting that drinking alcohol is far more destructive.
The 'We Can't Stop' singer said in a recent Rolling Stone interview that pot smokers tend to be far more mellow than people consuming alcohol.
"I think alcohol is way more dangerous than marijuana - people can be mad at me for saying that, but I don't care," Cyrus commented.
She continued: "I've seen a lot of people spiral down with alcohol, but I've never seen that happen with weed… As long as it isn't illegal, there are far more dangerous things.
"And it's legal in the state of California. So I'm happy to live in California, a place where you can be whoever you want to be."
Cyrus also answered coyly when quizzed on if she smokes marijuana regularly.
"I did a song with Snoop Dogg called 'Ashtrays and Heartbreaks', so people can put it together for themselves," she quipped.
The 20-year-old famously set off a firestorm of controversy in December 2010 when video footage emerged of her smoking a bong with friends at her LA home.
Cyrus later clarified that the substance in the bong was actually the natural herb salvia, which is legal in the state of California.
